Built in to stay

A North Hollywood cabinet shop. Jack measures your room, draws the lines, mills the wood, hangs the doors. One commission at a time.

The Practice

A single crew measures, draws, mills, and installs. The man who drafts your closet is the man who hangs its doors. That's the whole method.

Woodworks is Jack's shop — twenty-two feet of bench, two planers, a table saw, and a panel router humming on Varna Avenue. Commissions arrive one at a time. Kitchens, closets, wine walls, home offices, the occasional full-house joinery program. Residential only. Los Angeles only.

Every project starts the same way: Jack drives to the room, lays out the tape, asks about the knife drawer and the coffee mugs. Two weeks later the drawings come back. Six to twelve weeks after that, the van pulls up with the doors.

The work leaves the shop finished. Face frames, drawer boxes, edge banding, hinges — all done before the trim carpenter ever sees the site. That's why the installs are clean and why the last nail goes in on schedule.

La Maida

North Hollywood · 2024 · Kitchen + Pantry + Wine

A 1920s Spanish Colonial. The kitchen was the whole program — an eighteen-foot run of rift-sawn white oak, a full pantry behind a pair of pocket doors, and a wine wall stepping back into what used to be a hall closet.

Appliances were integrated. The hood came in on a custom cabinet. The back pantry got a salvaged brass sink. Install ran seven days on site.

Burbank · 2024 · Primary Closet + Bath

A reach-in bedroom closet blown out into a walk-in, shared wall with the primary bath. Island drawers in the middle, glass-front wardrobes on the perimeter, a seated vanity at the end where the morning light arrives.

The bath vanity matched the closet's face-frame language — floating, walnut, with a single radiused edge on the water side.

Santa Monica · 2024 · Wine Cellar + Living Built-Ins

A converted utility room turned wine cellar. Oak racks, recessed LED strips behind each bottle row, insulated door, and a tasting counter in quarter-sawn oak that matched the living room built-ins on the other side of the wall.

The living built-ins carried the same rail line, the same face frame, the same edge detail. You could walk from couch to cellar without the eye ever catching a seam.

The Process

Four steps. No subcontracted installers. No surprise change orders. The same number on the estimate goes on the invoice.

01

Measure

Jack drives to the room. Tape, notes, photos of the baseboard. Free consultation — no deposit on the first visit.

02

Draw

Elevations and plan come back within two weeks. Material samples arrive with the drawings. One round of revisions included.

03

Build

Six to twelve weeks in the shop on Varna. Cases built, doors cut, drawers boxed, finish sprayed, hinges set. All before the crew packs the van.

04

Install

Same crew that built the piece arrives to hang it. Clean site, drop cloths, shoe covers. Most closets finish in a day. Kitchens take a week.
